There is a wonderful contrast between the roly-poly shape of this human pot and the exquisitely controlled curving patterns that decorate the body. The loose suggestion of an unshaven beard and moustache give the face a rather rakish air. We understand this piece, both comic and elegant, because it has multiple facets like any real person.
