Like the stars themselves, the loveliness of this elegant jug seems timeless. When it was new, the Islamic world was in full flower; centuries later, the vessel still delights the eye. So much changes with the centuries, what joy it is to find beauty that time does not wither.
JB. 1105: Small bottle, mould-blown and tooled green glass with a globular body, flat shoulder, short opening neck with an everted and bulged rim, a concave base with pontil mark; the body is decorated with diagonal ribbings imitating a basket.
Northeastern Iran or Central Asia, 10th – 11th century.
Ht. 12.5cm; Top diam. 3.2cm; Base diam. 5.5cm.
