This lustrous stone is distinguished by skillful carving and drilling techniques. This is a magnificent representation of a high-status male royalty in Ancient Mayan Guatemala. One side of the celt has symbols that make references to the accession of a Mayan ruler. These small signs have a deep symbolic meaning, depicting scenes from the Mayan culture. On the opposite side, the king is depicted in full costume. This celt polished blade is drilled for suspension in order to be worn. It was worn in groups of three around the waist, on a belt. Again, this shows the symbolic importance of this work of art. The unquestionable beauty of this celt remains to be revered by both the Ancient and the modem man.
