This fascinating figure--beautifully patinated by time--stands in an attitude of perpetual prayer. He wears a tall, miter-like headdress and a long belted robe, which suggest that he holds priestly rank. As if to alert the sometimes indifferent gods that he is requesting a favor on behalf of the person who offered him, his open palmed hands have been created out of proportion to the rest of his body. He has stood this way for centuries--erect and proud--ever mindful of his duties.
