Remarkable skill and imagination are evidenced in this carved bone depicting the stylized image of a standing male, his arms holding a long object, perhaps an instrument, in front of him. Emphasis has been placed on the figure's dramatic head and face, as we observe his striking facial expression with its most unusual features. Close examination of the face reveals that the upper portion is composed of a strange animal whose face comprises the man’s nose, while the creatures feet and body form the mans ears and forehead, respectively. How extraordinary indeed, is the creative expression of the Ecuadorian artist who crafted this ordinary animal bone into a sophisticated work of art.
