Crafted with precision and an attention for detail, this ancient container painted in rich hues of red, orange and black astounds us with the mysterious language of hieroglyphs. Surrounding the base of the pot is a winged serpent. In the Mayan culture the serpent hovered above the head of the shaman or chieftain as if to consult its human counterpart. Above the serpent are a series of bands separating eleven similarly shaped symbols. Whether those symbols represented letters, animals or agricultural figures, we may never know. It is in its mystery that we are held spellbound by its beauty.
