The Zebu, an ox with a prominent hump, has been domesticated in the east since the dawn of history. Such a creature, valued for its milk, its flesh and its hide, would have made a valuable sacrifice to win the favor of the gods. This charming bronze votive, an offering of a more modest if more enduring nature, would serve the same purpose. Who placed it at some ancient shrine, and what did they ask of the heavens? Such a splendid gift must have pleased those now-forgotten deities, and the wishes of that ancient votary were surely granted.
