This antique carnelian intaglio dating from the 18th Century has been mounted in a modern 18 Karat gold ring.

Though intaglio gems were popular in the Renaissance, it was during the eighteenth century a true revival of c1assic intaglios began. Talented engravers such as James Tassie and Jacques Guay (who worked for Mme.de Pomadour), elevated the art of engraving in an attempt to equal or excel the masters of the ancient world. This delightful ring shows a the protagonists from the famous myth of Leda and the Swan. This lovely ring is the essence of youthful joy, elegance and gracious style-- hallmarks of the Classical Revival.
