Set in a 18 Karat Gold Rin
Precious stones were valued in antiquity as possessing magical and medicinal properties, as ornaments, and used for seals when engraved with a device. On this beautiful ring we see a Roman galleon, complete with oars and c1ever short slashes to indicate waves. Lapis Lazuli was one of the most sought-after and highly prized stones of ancient times. Primarily used for ornaments; when ground it was turned into the valuable pigment ultramarine. This gorgeous gem bas the perfect coloration for the theme of sea travel, with its rich blue sparkling like waves and glittering against the blue sky of the Mediterranean. The twill birds either side of the ornamental mast may represent figures of good fortune, needed for a safe voyage. Perhaps a wealthy merchant owned this ring, or even an emperor who loved the sea. Whoever next bas the good fortune to place it on their finger, can rejoice in its ancient aura and timeless beauty.
