Ninth race captures a frantic moment at the horse races when two "unlucky" fellows scramble to locate a lost winning ticket. Rummaging around a floor and wastebasket strewn with used tickets, in front of the betting windows, the two figures radiate an agitated energy as they try to rectify their mistake. Here, the artist has playfully captured a moment at the races when "lady luck" was clearly looking the other way. How lucky we are, however, to experience this delightful work of art, one in a series of paintings by Jeff Reed that imaginatively portrays a day at the horse races.
