The deep red-orange color of this attractive bowl is so rich it seems like an exotic plant or flower discovered in a rain forest. The remarkable coloration is in fact typical of Nayarit terracotta and serves as a beautiful background for the intricate black pattern. On the sides and bottom, thin black lines swirl and sweep as if blown by the wind. The lines spread apart then pull together again with the effect of always being in movement. Compared to the activity on the outside, the interior is relatively peaceful and calm. Only the center has decoration in the form of three circles surrounding a pattern of three interlocking semi-circles. The result is of another aspect of nature- of clouds coming together, of the eye of a storm and the serenity, which follows. With a steady brush and ceramic expertise an artist long ago made an object in clay delightfully reminiscent of nature; which is both lovely and useful and will remain so for centuries to come.
