Since the dawn of time, mankind has worn amulets to bring luck and ward off evil. Such talismans are believed to offer an added degree of protection in a world full of unknown dangers. For centuries, one of the prevailing fears has concerned the evil eye, a malevolent curse brought on by jealousy and resentment. The best antidote to the evil eye, the symbol most likely to repel it, has been an alert and staring eye. This ancient stone amulet shows a human head with wide-open eyes. Surely the person who wore it long ago went through life with a sense of calm assurance, knowing that he was kept safe from harm by this little talisman.
