Gold! The very word conjures up the image of splendor and mystery. This dazzling substance has been prized since the dawn of history. In every great civilization, in Egypt, Babylon, Persia and Rome, gold has set the standard for what is rare, precious and beautiful. Kings and queens have adorned themselves with gold to enhance their aura of worldly power. Great beauties have worn it to compliment their natural charms. The intricate gold working technique that distinguishes this splendid chain was first developed in classical Greece. This woven style remained popular for centuries afterwards, throughout the Roman Empire and into the Byzantine era. The technique was lost for centuries, until Italian goldsmiths inspired by ancient originals rediscovered it during the renaissance. This splendid chain could have easily adorned the neck of an ancient monarch. Whoever wears it today is certain to feel like royalty.
