These Silver Denarii are Set in an 18 Karat Gold Bracelet
Julia Domna was the daughter of a priest of the sun god Elagabulus from Emesa Syria. In A.D. 187 she married the future emperor Septimius Severus; and a year later gave birth to his first son Caracalla, who was destined to be emperor 198-217 A.D. In the complex and often dangerous world of Roman Imperial politics Julia proved herself so intelligent and astute her husband often consulted her on important matters of state. She was also popular with the people and the army, having been made 'mother of the camp' in A.D.195. This lovely bracelet contains seven of her silver denarii each with her profile, at different stages of life, facing right. From left to right the reverses of the first two coins show Victory holding a spear; followed by five Vestas holding patera ( votive dish) and scepter. Vesta was the Roman goddess of the hearth-fire whose cult in Rome comprised the sole female priesthood. She was regarded as a deity of honor, family traditions, and Rome's stability- a perfect symbol for a woman who was both a mother and an empress of the western world.
