One of the great contributors to the development of modern art was Russian avant garde painter Kasimir Malevich, who lived from 1878 to 1935. As founder of the suprematist movement in the beginning of this century, he was the first major figure to break through the traditional restraints of representational expression. His aesthetic philosophy--suprematism--was a form representative of nothing outside of itself. Form symbolized form, and rather than referring to the "real" material world, it alluded to "inner" worlds--our psyche. In Malevich’s painting “Dynamic Composition, Yellow and Black” we experience the examination of form, which at the same time, gives rise to potent emotions deep within our being.
