As art imitates life, this press-molded whistle shows a Moche lord who is himself blowing on a serpent-shaped whistle. He wears a caped costume and an elaborate, plumed headdress, probably ceremonial regalia. We wonder what occasion would compel dignified, richly dressed individuals to make noise with whistles--perhaps the Moche equivalent of New York's Eve.
