Centuries ago, this striking woman was buried to keep eternal vigil with the deceased. Richly jeweled and costumed, holding an offering bowl, she no doubt represents the person who placed her in the tomb. Her awed expression rivets our gaze. Wide-eyed and open-mouthed as if wailing aloud, she appears to have confronted the essential mysteries of the underworld. The human emotions she expresses, have lost none of their power with time. To look upon her face is to understand the soul of her ancient world.
