At the height of the Classical age, this elegant vessel would have contained rare balms or perfumes exported to the far corners of the Greek world. We can imagine it adorning the dressing table of some Thracian princess or an Illyrian lady. Its delicate shape is as appealing to modern sensibilities as it surely was to ancient ones. As we grasp its handle and hold it to our nose, we can almost smell the perfume of flowers that bloomed long ago.
