An unparalleled combination of craftsmanship and aesthetics, this Ancient Peruvian flute echoes the unique visual and audible legacy of the Huari culture. One can just imagine the ancient artist as he magically gleans the idea of carving a flute from the naturally conforming shape of this hollow long bone. But not just a simple flute. Here the artist/musician has masterfully included the carved image of a monkey, possibly the depiction of his own pet, brought from the Montana region to the east. The underside of the monkey's arched body and extended forearms skillfully form the hollow mouthpiece of the flute. The monkey's wide-eyed gaze stares out, his ears most certainly attuned to the lyrical notes emanating from this distinctive instrument. A carved tail with handsome geometric patterns meanders down the length of the bone, curving sensuously around the flute's note holes. If we listen carefully, we too can hear the ancient melodic tunes as they waft across time and space, at once filling our hearts with the mystical passions of this most sensitive and creative Peruvian culture.
