Standing proudly and defiantly this beautiful male figure holds an axe in his upraised right hand and a trophy head in his left, both tilted at an angle. His belt is composed of rectangular segments, imitating cloth armor worn by warriors in battle. The headdress is flat and segmented with a knob at the top, giving the appearance of a soft cap. This warrior's face shows maturity, his eyebrows knitted together, eyes slightly squinting as if to show determination. The inverted Y-shape on his chest and abdomen is typical of such sculptures. Since the taking of prisoners in battle and their subsequent sacrifice was deemed necessary to the continuation of the life cycle, the warriors who accomplished these deeds were idolized. Therefore the images of these brave men, idealized or not, was worthy to be carved in a substance as strong and rugged as the warriors themselves.
