Carved out of a deep and rich colored jade, this small and delicate piece, is filled with character and beautifully crafted. The eyes and eyebrows are perfectly symmetrical and abstract, yet highlight the face, along with the gently protruding lips. The chin is chiseled, adding character to the face and giving it its own identity. Due to the prominence of the eyes and lips, one is distracted from the nose, allowing for a perfect facial balance. Finishing off a magnificent piece are the elongated ears, which are also pierced. This would have been common in the Mayan people. The artist was a true craftsman to carve such a delicate piece out of such a beautiful stone, and he has allowed us to be a part of this piece, so many years later.
