This kneeling figure appears either about to rise up, or in the process of lowering himself down into a defensive position. He holds an object in his raised right hand, most probably a weapon. In his left hand he cradles a bowl or cup. The man is naked, (nudity being a privilege of high ranking warriors), his hair cropped short, eyes narrow and brow furrowed to show concentration and tension. Even the form of his slightly parted mouth is in keeping with someone about to utter a cry of battle. In contrast to the more static poses of many 'shaman' sculptures, this figure comes to life; revealing through the use of simple tools and vivid imagination the character and presence of an Ancient Costa Rican warrior.
