This piece depicts two monkey's on opposing sides of the vessel that seem playful through the curvilinear lines of the arms, legs, and tail. The profile of the monkey's mouth and tail shows us he is laughing, and happy. There is so much movement contained within the creature, it looks as if he may swing off the vessel! The geometrical patterning all over the vessel also adds to the sense of motion as we turn the pot around, following the directions of the arrows. The artist of this work has carefully chiseled away a form that becomes a monkey, an animal that lives in the same jungle-like environment as the humans of Costa Rica.
