This handsome, naked man kneels before us as if giving homage to a deity. With both hands on his knees, he balances himself, presenting himself with dignity and respect. His deep polychrome color creates a subtlety and mystery not always found. His tattooing is simple, with geometric and scroll patterns, but heavily painted by the artist. His ears, eyes and lips are both painted in red and outlined in a dark brown paint. At the back, a simplistic form of hair has been painted. A most interesting feature of this man is at the lip of the vessel that extends outwards into a point on the right hand side. This may be a part of the function of the vessel, as storage for a liquid offering, or it might be a part of his traditional headdress. It is also painted red to accentuate its appearance. With his calm and distinguished face, the viewer cannot help but wonder what this young man was thinking about, in turn, making us feel more relaxed yet inquisitive about the past.
