Sitting in regal splendor, the woman's posture says nothing more than that she is in charge. With this type of disposition in the sculpture, she must have been very important in both her family and her tribe. Her extensive tattooing only adds to this. She is only partially clothed; yet the garment harmonizes beautifully with her tattoos. The hair on her head has been parted and a mask has been painted around her eyes. As someone's ancestor, she would have sat prominently in the home. Along her face, she has a variety of geometric designs, including across. Her arms, legs, stomach, back and even breasts are tattooed; yet they are all in a geometric pattern rather than a floral pattern. Her subtle polychrome coloring adds mystery to her beauty and a gentle quality to her strength and undeniable presence. The sculpture represented the able matriarch during her life and continues to make her an immortal enigma.
