This tripod vessel has a Jicara (pear shaped gourd) body, the rounded bottom curves into a steep shoulder, above which there is an appliquéd and stippled band. The neck is splayed, and the whole is supported on hollow legs containing rattles. What makes the vessel particularly attractive is the way in which the outer loops of the legs are formed as zoomorphic creatures. This imposing funerary piece is decorated with red slip, and we are left to ponder on the fascinating myth-religious system of these ancient peoples.
