The jar stands on a ring base, the four supports possibly representing the legs of the animal. The modeled head transforms this elegant pear-shaped jar into a truly animated work of art. The surface of the jar is decorated with slip, and then painted with black and red paint. The large-scale geometric polychrome pattern is designed to create a surface pattern over the entire piece. Such apiece would have been of an elite burial, with great iconographic importance attached to the polychrome pattern. The animal may have been associated with magical powers, particularly in relation to the God of the hunt.
