The subject matter of this particular piece is very unique. The whole vessel has been incorporated into the subject theme of a mother monkey, carrying her two children on her back. Her two legs and prehensile tail help to steady the vessel, creating a tripod effect. The vessel itself has a tall neck that includes geometric pencil thin engraving. On either side of the vessel, the children lie precariously on their mothers back. The mother herself holds her head and her chest as if in a motion of support. The faces are carefully molded to create dramatic realism. Even to this day in the jungle or in a zoo, we see the mother monkey carrying her children, and carrying them lovingly. This vessel recreates that scene which touches the heart no matter who you are.
