This seated female effigy vessel is modeled with prominent breasts, arms and hands resting on her knees. The broad face has wide-open eyes under thick straight brows and a wide triangular nose over a thick-lipped rectangular mouth. Earspools adorn her ears. A thick band, which also forms the rim of the vessel, circles the head. Incised zoning and the remnants of black paint designs appear on her shoulders, wrists, hands, feet, neck and head. The zoning may represent body painting, tattooing or, in some cases, articles of clothing or jewelry. She is seated in a pose with legs folded under and spread wide in what may be a ceremonial posture. This vessel may have served an important function during shaman rituals. The artistic ingenuity of this vessel makes it a masterpiece of well-developed skill and remarkable creativity.
