This beautiful black/brown terracotta vessel demonstrates the ingenuity of the past while also keeping to tradition. The chocolate pot was an important part of ritual ceremonies and its design reflects the functionality as well as decorative beauty. The main decorative motif is located on the tripod legs of the vessel where a sculptured male figure in semi-relief is located. The face is highly decorated in comparison to the rest of the body, which is applied onto the torso, and reflects a more skeletal design. The pot itself has a wide lip making it easier for serving. In all, the piece combines to create a genuine work of art that will remain timeless, as the day it was created.
