This ceremonial vessel demonstrates the careful thought and design that was taken to create the finished product. The high neck and gracefully flared lip help to balance the rounded face. To create a sense of realism, the eyes protrude slightly and the nostrils flare. It is the mouth however, that is of particular interest, slightly open and bearing the sharp and vicious teeth. The overall expression of the animal is strong and determined, with little room vagueness. Its function would have been for ceremonies, as a formal part of the rituals that would take place. The deep brown glaze, which covered the earthenware added to the sense of realism that was being created by the artist who had all ready, studied the subject. With such intense realism, we become awe-inspired by the sheer imagination and creativity of the piece.
