At once, this ancient vessel catches our attention. What was the artist's intention in applying an anthropomorphic figure on one of the three legs? And what was the mythological or ritual significance of the figure? The little creature has coffee-bean eyes, a wide nose and parted lips revealing a few teeth. A small cap encircles its head and several lines are engraved across its upper torso. The arms and hands hold his tummy while its legs dangle downward. Three rows of applied pellets surround the globular vessel's body. The neck of the vessel is quite long and elegant. Experts believe that vessels of this shape were used to hold chocolate drinks. It's easy to imagine the Ancient Costa Ricans love for chocolate; we continue to carry out this indulging consumption today.
