This charming figure demonstrates the simplicity and uncomplicated feel that art may have. The solidity of the earthenware and the warmth of the red hue, allows certain proximity between the piece and the viewer, which is not always possible. The anatomy of the figure is kept to the bare minimum, allowing us to focus on the work as a whole. The figure sits cross-legged with his hands carefully poised on his knees. The upright posture, gives the person an alertness that can also be felt in the face. Though the eyes seem closed, the face is nevertheless awake, and the charming hat gives the piece a sense of completeness, giving an overall polished feel to the entire piece, and sustaining the idea that art can take on both the most complicated of designs and the simplest.
