This extremely creative piece, examines the idea of the invalid in ancient society. Though the vessel still functions as a ceremonial container, the design on the piece shows a person who is afflicted with an ailment, causing the leg to no longer function properly. The face of the person in turn shows the distress and pain that is caused by this affliction. The teeth are shown, grimacing in pain, while the arm is painted in such a way to show the supporting of the leg. The artwork on the vessel is predominantly painted, and done with such care, to provide the ultimate realism within the design. Maintaining the earth tones merely enhances the work of art, whose subtlety becomes more beautiful with age.
