The depiction of the jaguar's fierceness is a warning to all the harm that will come to them if they try to acquire the contents of this container. The jaguar is a powerful animal and was revered by the Costa Ricans for its strength. This vessel pays homage to the beast of the Costa Rican jungle. The vessel itself rests upon three legs. The front two legs are stylized paws of the jaguar and the back tripod leg is in the form of a crocodile tail. The whole of the vessel is covered in geometric designs. The jaguars face projects off the vessel and is rendered in a vicious pose. The fangs are exposed and the eyes are opened wide. There is a band that goes around the vessel in a pattern of raised white spots with red centers. It is similar to crocodile scales yet another beast that was feared and loathed. The overall symbolic power of this vessel is still felt today in a time without the threat of being killed by predators.
