Rare in its beauty and design, this Iguana-type animal sits patiently before us, as if waiting or resting. The hard granite- like material from which it is made, adds a life-like quality to its skin, seemingly allowing it to breathe and come alive. The facial features and scales move with the stone, creating a creature that is beyond imagination in its beauty and character. The lizard was of particular importance in Mexican culture and mythology, explaining its presence in a variety of ancient artifacts and rituals. Though its actual function is not clear, the dedication it took to create such a marvelous work of art leaves us awe-inspired and enchanted, wishing and yearning to learn more about the past and its hidden meanings, becoming a part of the past and relating it to the present.
