The underside of this dish is comprised of a circle, formed by a thick black band, within which are intersecting lines. Around the edge is a series of short vertical black lines or slashes between which is a pattern of two pairs of three lines at right angles. A solid triangle is at center having two short vertical lines topped by horizontal slashes. This unique design is echoed along the middle of the inside of the everted lip, bordered by two black lines. The designs on this phiale add an element of mystery to its basically simple form.
