The image on this intaglio resembles two Roman emperors in particular, Elagabalus (reigned 218 - 222 A.D.) and Gordian III (238 - 244 A.D.) in addition to their appearance' as shown on ancient coins, they shared other similarities-- both were around 13 years old when they acquired the throne, and bath were deposed by the praetorian guards. Their characters, however, were very different and basically the opposite in nature. Wearing a laurel wreath to designate imperial power this emperor, whoever he may be, exudes a sense of youth and vigor that is very attractive.
