Immediately a sense of tranquility engulfs us upon seeing this piece. The beautifully carved youth is so relaxed holding his fishing pole, having just made his catch, pulling the fish from the foaming sea. In his other hand he carries a pouch. A rounded hat (similar to that worn by the god Mercury) protects him against the sun. His body is beautifully supple and free moving as if he hasn't a care in the world. He is nearly naked with only a fine cloth tied around his waist. The sculptor has modeled him with such care that it is as if he is still moving, just about to scoop up his fish. We cannot but envy this individual; yet, through his remarkable realism the sculptor has given us a chance to join this fisherman in his happy pursuit.
