This is a round cylinder with flat bottom and pierced long top. The design on the sides shows a bovine being attacked by a jumping lion as a monkey falls to the ground between them. A terminal is formed of a walking man below a seated monkey, and a lunar crescent appears in the sky. The design on the base shows a perching bird with wings raised.
This seal comes from West Central Asia and dates to c.2000-1500 B.C. It is a little known type cut with many fine strokes, and in perfect condition. It is later and the well-known Indus civilization.
