The contribution of Buddhism during the Sui period has been considered as remarkable.
Buddhism was introduced into China during the Han Dynasty; by increasingly becoming accepted and encouraged by the Sui imperial families, it created a unifying cultural force that morally and spiritually raised the population from the plague of several internal rebellions. During the Sui Dynasty, Buddhism was responsible for the rebirth of culture in China. It is generally believed that the full lotus position is the best position for meditating. The meditator who is able to sit comfortably in full lotus is close to the ground and is also in a very balanced and symmetrical posture. The Lotus Position or Padmasana is a cross-legged sitting asana originating in meditative practices of ancient India, in which the feet are placed on the opposing thighs. It is an established asana, commonly used for meditation and the asana is said to resemble a lotus, to encourage breathing properly through associated meditative practice, and to foster physical stability.
