A series of soft-stone artifacts of Bactria-Margiana Archaeological Complex (BMAC) origin, which were carved with a number of stylistically coherent motifs, widespread within the Middles Asian Interaction Sphere and across a number of ancient cultural regions, are been given the rather vague term "Intercultural Style", considering the fact that they have been found in disparate and seemingly unrelated places. Such objects often incorporate in their decoration themes based on the hierarchy of organisms in nature and/or geometric designs often based again on nature or simply abstract. These motifs include snakes in combat, humped bulls, a lion-headed bird, rosettes, date palms, along with simpler designs such a mats, beveled squares and whirls. Footed circular vessel carved from black steatite, decorated by the depiction of two pairs of interwoven snakes firmly held by two long-haired anthropomorphic creatures with tail. The snakes’s scales were once decorated by inlaid shells, of which a few still remain.
