This jade hilt has curved foliate quillons, a round pommel and is finely decorated with metal foliated designs and studded precious stones. The jade is of a stunning milky colour and has been skilfully polished.
Related examples are a Mughal jade dagger hilt in the National Palace Museum, Taipei, illustrated in Exquisite Beauty: Islamic Jades, Taipei, 2007, p.117, no.139, a jewelled dagger handle in the Metropolitan Museum (accession number: 02.18.773). The hilt of rare white jade carved was recently sold by Sotheby's (L12220 /Lot 590).
