An exquisite example of a covered glass vase of flattened baluster shape and decorated with two sinuous coiling chilong in high relief. Chilong dragons represent strength, influence and stateliness in ancient Chinese culture. The vase is a glass version of its rock crystal counterpart of the Qing Dyansty, of which several comparable examples can be seen in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Vessels of similar shape were also manufactured using metals, particularly bronze and were using mostly during rituals.
