A clear cast glass vessel with lid in the form of a mythological beast . The glass is colourless and resembles the purity and brilliance of rock-crystal and it has been shaped using a mould.
The vessel is hollow, suggesting that it was intended to be used as a container. However, the design of the body does not seem functional for pouring water or wine, suggesting that it might have been used as a sort of perfume container/incense burner. The style of the glass resembles similar vessels made in rock crystal or bronze models. During the Qing Dynasty, glass became more widely used and craftsmen started to reinterpret traditional forms using this new material, creating outstanding results.
The vessel is in great conditions, with no sign of damage of the material and the glass does not show any signs of pitting or iridescence.
