This rare jade disk is a copy of the ancient Chinese bronze mirrors of the Han Dynasty. Of circular form, carved with two concentric central circles and decorated with interwoven chilong dragons motifs in relief, surrounded by circular frames. Here, the shape and decoration of the the famous Chinese bronze mirrors are cleverly reproduced using jade.
Though uncommon until the Han dynasty, the Chinese made mirrors since the Neolithic period. Interestingly, Chinese mirrors are made from a bronze alloy rather than glass.
