This deep bowl with slightly flared sides is supported by three beautifully modeled human effigy heads. Each head is in relief and quite realistic with eyebrows drawn in heavy black, eyes rimmed in black to add to their intensity and small black dots on the head suggesting hair. The patterns both on the interior and exterior of the bowl are highly geometric and very pleasing to the eye. Repeated checkerboards around the outside give the impression of perspective, while the series of circles on the upper inside rim seem to swirl with their own energy in constant motion. Such objects as this exquisite bowl were made for the wealthy elite of Costa Rica, and it is not difficult to imagine it filled with ripe colorful fruit to grace the table of a great chief or warrior.
