Realistic zoomorphic buzzard effigy forms dominate this vessel. The artistic craftsmanship is highlighted in the fluidity of the buzzard's body. Three solid burnished-red legs support the bulbous vessel. The buzzard's head protrudes from the vessel with detailed facial characteristics. The top of the head has an outcrop of clay that wraps onto the mouth rim to form a handle. The tail is in the same form and serves its purpose as a handle. Hallowed legs with slits support the vessel. Smaller versions of the buzzard are applied where each slender leg joins the body. Beautiful, full circular heads, large beaks and little wings are rendered expertly. This is just an example of the ingenuity of the Costa Rican artist. Collectively, this work of art is a wonderful display of the talent and expert workmanship of the Costa Ricans.
