Shortly after the death of Claudius Gothicus, Aurelian was rightfully proclaimed Emperor by his troops at Sirmium, and after the suicide of Quintillius, he reigned undisputed as master of the Empire.
Aurelian reigned for five years, and within this short time he restored the Roman Empire to its former extent and greatness. The magnitude of Aurelian's greatness was felt far across the empire. The impact of his assassination shocked his people with the same force as his celebrated reign.
