The artist of this magnificent work of art captured the omniscient power of a ruler within this community. This man is perched on top of this vessel, ready to go fishing. The decorations on this large headdress are powerful, showing a small head on the front. The large amount of jewelry this man is adorned with exemplifies his high status. It is immediately clear that this man is a shaman, a magic man, an intermediary between our world and the spiritual world due to the lobster-like features emerging from this man. The claws appear out from his legs, and shoulders. The face of this man is magnificent, in that it radiates happiness through the wide eyes and mouth. It looks as if the hook has caught a large fish with lobster qualities, but if we look closer it is really a human. This person most probably represents someone lost in the underworld, and thus has a fish costume over his body except his hands. The magnificent detailing on this object leaves us breathless as we look at this powerful ruler. With its strong sense of physical presence and power, the clay sculpture seems to radiate energy into the space around it.
